Since the promulgation of the Community Schemes Ombud Service (CSOS) Act 2011, in October 2016, the ombudsman’s office has received 21 000 registration applications for community schemes. During a briefing in Johannesburg, on Friday, CSOS ombudsman Themba Mthethwa said that prior to the promulgation of the Act, there were no figures on the number of community schemes in the country, but that all schemes now had to register with the CSOS.
